Mary Adochi is a single mother who lost her husband during the South Sudan tribal civil war in 2016. The household biosand filter (BSF) technology is an adaptation of the traditional slow sand filter, which has been used for community drinking water treatment for 200 years The biosand filter technology was developed by Dr. David Manz in the late 1980s at the University of Calgary, Canada.

While Feat Africa adopted the biosand filter, a technology that provide economic freedom to households in 2016. The rural communities of Kajo-Keji, Juba, Yei in south Sudan; Koboko, Arua, Pakwach in Uganda and Ingbokolo in the Democratic Republic of Congo have benefited from this services.
